Resorts and camping spots are available along the route, providing you with an opportunity to see the “sea of fog” phenomenon, where, during the cooler months, the valleys are often covered by a blanket of thick mist, creating a surreal, almost otherworldly atmosphere.

Phu Tubberk is also home to several hill tribe communities, providing a great opportunity to experience the local culture and taste traditional cuisine in Phetchabun.

No matter what time of day you ride, the view will be fantastic. However, sunrise and sunset are particularly magical.

Practical Tips

  • Remember to dress respectfully, covering your shoulders and knees, as is customary when visiting Buddhist temples in Thailand.
  • The temple requires you to remove your boots/shoes, so if you are concerned about leaving them in the public area, take a bag to carry them with you.
  • Remember to be quiet. The serene environment is perfect for meditation and self-reflection, so take your time to soak in the atmosphere.
  • Wat Phrasornkaew is a popular destination, so it’s a good idea to arrive early to avoid the crowds.

History
Within the stunning natural beauty of Phu Hin Rong Kla, lies a tale of historical significance.
During Thailand’s political turbulence in the 1960s and 1970s, the park was a guerrilla warfare stronghold for the Communist Party of Thailand (CPT). The rugged terrain of the national park in Phetchabun created the ideal hiding spot for the CPT.

The remains of their camps and hides are one of the main attractions of the park, and the park’s visitor centre houses an exhibition showcasing this important part of Thailand’s history.

Nature
An abundance of flora and fauna live within the park. Over 200 bird species have been reported as well as some rare sightings such as leopards, leopard cats, and Asian black bears. Some believe tigers still roam in the park, although there has been no evidence to support this.

One of the park’s most appealing features is the extensive network of trails and hiking paths, taking you through lush waterfalls and fascinating rock formations.
