ABOUT MOTO GIRL IN THAILAND
My Name Is Zed
– a solo female rider, originally from the UK, based in Thailand. My passion is exploring the beauty and nature of the region and sharing it via trip reports, guides, and videos.
How I Got into Riding
After years of moving around, living in various countries being fairly nomadic, I found myself in Northern Thailand. Finally, I found a place that felt like home, and I put down roots. Chiang Mai is now the longest place I lived my whole life.
When I arrived (in 2006), I initially explored the region on a bicycle. Armed with a paper map, a notebook, and a compass, I had a lot of fun exploring the nooks and crannies of Chiang Mai.
After a few years when I itched to explore further, I taught myself how to ride an automatic scooter and passed the Thai riding test. Then, in 2010 I traded in my rental scooter and bought a 115cc automatic. With my paper map and Thai license, I set off riding in the region.
Unfortunately, in 2011 I had a serious accident on the scooter. I was riding in Mae Hong Son province (which at that time had some badly broken up routes). I survived the accident but realised that if I wanted to continue exploring safely, I would need to be on a manual bike.
After recovering from my accident I began teaching myself how to ride a manual bike and finally, in 2015, I bought my Kawasaki dtracker 250cc (which is when I began documenting trips).
